How to build an app without a developer, from idea to store
Without a developer does not mean without work. It means the work moves from writing code to making decisions: which screens exist, what data you keep, who sees what. The technical part — builds, signing, compatibility with iOS and Android versions — is handled by the platform.
The steps, in order
- Write in a single sentence what the app does for the user. If it does not fit, cut.
- Sketch the 3–5 main screens on paper and the path between them.
- Build the screens in the visual editor and put in real data, not 'Lorem ipsum'.
- Hand the app to 5 people from your audience and watch them use it, without explaining.
- Fix whatever blocked them, then publish. Not the other way around.
Where you still need help
- The Apple and Google developer accounts, if your company is not yet verified with them.
- Integrating with an old internal system that has no API.
- The privacy policy and GDPR consent, if you collect sensitive personal data.
How long it realistically takes
- The first usable version: 2–5 days of actual work.
- Testing with real users and the fixes that follow: another week.
- Store review: usually 1–3 days for the first submission.
How 4myapp helps
4myapp covers exactly the part you do not want to learn: generating signed builds, keeping up with new iOS and Android versions, hosting the data and authenticating users. You keep the product decisions, which cannot be outsourced anyway.
