A mobile app for a small business: is it worth it
An app does not make sense for every small business. It makes sense when the customer comes back often and that return can be made simpler: a booking, a repeat order, a loyalty card, an appointment, tracking a job. If a customer looks you up once a year, a good website is enough.
The three-question test
Two 'yes' out of three means an app earns its cost. A single 'yes' means you optimise the website first.
- Does the customer interact with you at least twice a month?
- Is there a repeated action the app makes at least three steps shorter?
- Do you have a real reason to send a notification the person actually waits for?
The features that bring people back
- Repeating the last order or booking with a single tap.
- Their own history: what they bought, when they visited, what comes next.
- A useful notification at the right moment: 'your car is ready', 'your appointment is tomorrow at 10:00'.
- A loyalty card that cannot be lost from a wallet.
What it realistically costs monthly
- The no-code platform: a predictable monthly subscription, with no upfront development cost.
- Developer accounts: Apple is billed yearly, Google once at signup.
- Your time: a few hours a month for content and notifications — do not leave it out of the maths.
How 4myapp helps
With 4myapp you can validate the idea before investing: build the main screens, publish a PWA you hand to loyal customers via a QR code, and watch the analytics to see whether they come back. If they do, generate the native builds from the same project. If they do not, you spent a few hours, not a development budget.
